Microsoft Access 2007 contains certain security features that cause it not to trust programs by default.  This applies to all programs, including CEMS.  There are several ways to disable this feature: you can turn it off entirely, or you can instruct Access 2007 to trust CEMS.  This document describes the procedure, which you need to follow only once to add CEMS to the list of trusted applications on this computer. 

 

At the end of this document, some extra steps (labeled E1-E6) that can make the CEMS screen less busy by removing the Access 2007 ribbon bar and navigation pane.

 

The Problem

When you launch CEMS under Access 2007, you may see a message similar to:

 

 

CEMS will them become stuck at the opening page, and will not ask which conference you would like to use.

This is due to default security settings in Access 2000. 

 

Solution:

1. Click the Options button immediately after the Security Warning message, circled above.  You will see the screen:

 

 

2. Click “Open the Trust Center” at the bottom left. The following screen will appear:

 

 

3. Click the “Add New Location” button circled above.  The following dialog will appear:

 

 

4. Type “c:\cems” in the first box, as circled above.  If you have installed CEMS in a different location, enter its folder name.  The CEMS installation program assumes C:\CEMS. 

 

5. Hit the OK button.  The Trust Center screen should now show c:\cems as a trusted location:

 

 

5. Hit the OK button at the bottom right.  You will return to the Security Alert screen. 

 

 

 

6. Check “Enable this content” and hit OK. The CEMS Choose Conference screen will then appear:

 

 

In the future, when you start CEMS, this screen will appear immediately.

 

 

Removing the Ribbon Bar and Navigation Pane

You can also make CEMS a little friendlier by removing the Access ribbon bar at the top and navigation bar at left.  Here are a few extra steps that you can perform anytime CEMS (or any other Access program) is running.  Once you make these changes, they will take effect each time you run CEMS or any other Access program.’

 

E1. Right-click an empty place in the ribbon bar at the top:

 

 

E2. Click “Minimize the Ribbob”.  This will make the ribbon bar go away.

 

E3. Click the circular Access icon at the extreme upper left.  A screen will appear:

 

 

E4. Click the Access Options button at the lower right.  The Access Options screen will appear:

 

 

E5. Click Current Database at the upper left, circled above.  The dialog will change:

 

 

 

 

E6. Un-check the box Display Navigation Pane, circled above.  Then hit OK.
